Opportunity for Developers

Telnic believes that the .tel infrastructure will be a very exciting development platform for innovative solutions in communications, VOIP, discovery and identity management. As such, Telnic is investing significant resources in building and supporting a thriving developers community.

From a developer's perspective, the .tel is a personal encryptable data store for contact information, geolocation and identity publishing, fully owned by the .tel registrant, with simple read and write APIs. The .tel has many features to help with the development of unique solutions:

Key Features
Accessible from anywhere: every internet-enabled device must support DNS
Fully extensible data types within the communications space, present or future: from "tel:voice" to "web:https" or the non-standard "x-im:aim"
Unlimited keyword support inside a .tel for personal vcard/hcard support, SEO or SEM
Support for geolocation (LOC) records
Totally decentralized DNS-based architecture, with full owner control. Nobody owns one's .tel but the owner himself
A read API extending the DNS that includes decryption of private data
Comprehensive write API: all .tel provisioning systems are required to conform to the TelHost SOAP API which provides fine-grained control over data, friending and privacy
Near real-time updates (based on the configurable DNS time-to-live cache)
Zero lock-in: the registrant owns his .tel and can contractually switch providers at any time.

Telnic is finalizing a broad range of developer APIs and documentation, and has sponsored the development of full-featured applications for mobile devices and desktops. See Resources for more details. All of the above-mentioned applications will be open source. To be notified when the developers site is ready, please sign up.
